TradingView alerts not working? 12 causes and the fix for each
“Missed a trade because of an alert not triggering” (r/TradingView)
Before changing anything, answer one question: did the alert fire? Open the Alerts panel, check the alert’s status, then open the Alert log. If the trigger is in the log, TradingView did its part and the problem is in the notification. If it isn’t, the problem is the alert itself, its timing, or the data behind it.
We’ve grouped the 12 causes below by what you saw. The order inside each group is our own judgement of how often it happens, not TradingView’s. Every fix links to TradingView’s own help pages, checked on 30 October 2026.
Which problem do you have?
| What happened | Look at |
|---|---|
| Didn’t fire at all, nothing in the Alert log | Causes 1, 2, 3, 5, 11, 12 |
| Fired, but the chart shows no signal now | Causes 4, 5 |
| Fired late | Causes 4, 6, 10 |
| In the Alert log, but no message reached you | Causes 7, 8, 9 and the webhook section |
| Message arrived, but no sound | Cause 9 |
| Fired at the wrong time of day, or not in pre-market | Cause 11 |
| A webhook alert fires, but nothing arrives at the other end | The webhook section below |
Did your TradingView alert expire or stop?
Cause 1: It expired. Every alert has a lifetime that depends on your plan. On the free Basic plan it’s one month (pricing page), and on the cheaper paid plans it’s two months (TradingView Help). Premium and the plans above it can set open-ended alerts. TradingView switches even those off once they’ve gone a year without triggering or an edit (TradingView Help).
How to tell: the Alerts tab shows Stopped, Expired.
Fix: restart it and set a later expiration date.
Cause 2: You set it to “Only once” and it already fired. An Only once alert fires a single time and then stops (alert frequencies).
How to tell: the status says Stopped, Triggered.
Fix: edit the alert and pick Once per bar or Once per bar close so it keeps watching.
Cause 3: TradingView stopped it for you. TradingView automatically stops a regular alert that fires more than 15 times in 3 minutes (TradingView Help). Moving to a smaller plan also stops every active alert, and you can restart them within the new plan’s limits (TradingView Help).
Fix: for the frequency stop, switch from Once per minute or every time to Once per bar close, or tighten the condition.
Did it fire at the wrong moment?
Cause 4: It fired in the middle of a bar, and the bar changed. With any setting except Once per bar close, an alert can fire while the bar is still forming. If price then moves back, the candle closes and the signal is gone from your chart, but the alert already went out (TradingView Help). Custom scripts that repaint (redraw past signals) make this worse, and TradingView advises against setting alerts on them (TradingView Help).
Fix: use Once per bar close, as TradingView’s Pine Script docs recommend.
Cause 5: You changed the indicator after making the alert. An alert saves a snapshot of the script, its inputs and the chart at the moment you create it. Edits you make afterwards don’t reach it, so it keeps running the old version (Pine Script docs).
Fix: delete the alert and create it again after every change to the script or its settings.
Also check the condition itself. A Crossing alert only fires when price moves through the level, so an alert made after price is already past it can wait a long time. The alert also keeps the chart timeframe you had open when you created it. Strategy alerts can fire at different moments than the orders shown in the Strategy Tester, and alerts on indicators that shift their lines with an offset may not match what you see. TradingView’s help folder on alerts that trigger incorrectly or not at all covers each case.
Cause 6: Once per bar close waited for the next trade. TradingView treats a bar as closed when the first trade of the next bar arrives. On a quiet symbol that can take a few seconds or longer, and when trading has stopped, TradingView closes the bar one minute after its formal close time (TradingView Help).
Fix: this is normal behaviour. If seconds matter, use a liquid symbol or an intrabar setting and accept cause 4.
Alert fired but no notification on iPhone or Android?
Cause 7: You have a notification schedule on. TradingView lets you set hours for alert notifications, and outside them TradingView blocks notifications completely, webhooks included (TradingView Help). The alert still shows in the Alert log, so this one looks like a phone problem when it isn’t.
Fix: check the schedule in your alert notification settings.
Cause 8: Your phone isn’t allowed to show it.
- Log into the TradingView app with the same account you used to create the alert.
- Tick Notify in App when you create the alert (TradingView Help).
- On iPhone, make sure push notifications are on for the TradingView app, and log out and back in if they still don’t come (iOS help).
- On Android, update the app and Google Play services, allow notifications, and free some storage (Android help).
- Focus modes, Do Not Disturb and battery savers can also hold notifications back, so check those on the phone itself.
Cause 9: TradingView alert not making a sound. Make sure you ticked Play sound in the alert’s settings. In the browser, allow notifications (Chrome) or audio and autoplay (Firefox, Safari) for tradingview.com, click anywhere on the page once so the browser lets it play audio, check the system volume mixer, or try another browser (TradingView Help).
Why are TradingView alerts delayed?
Cause 10: The chart is on delayed data. A small D next to the symbol means the chart shows delayed prices (TradingView Help), so an alert can look late or wrong next to a live feed or your broker’s prices. US stocks show real-time Cboe data by default. Real-time NASDAQ and NYSE data is a paid add-on (TradingView Help), and many stock and futures exchanges charge separately for live data. Crypto exchanges on TradingView are real-time (TradingView Help).
Fix: buy the exchange’s real-time data, or set the alert on a symbol that’s already real-time.
Why don’t TradingView alerts work in pre-market?
Cause 11: The alert follows a different session than you expect. Futures alerts calculate within the contract’s electronic trading hours, whatever session your chart shows. For US stocks and ETFs, watchlist alerts can be switched to the Extended session to include pre-market and after-hours trading (TradingView Help). Watchlist alerts need Premium or higher. On other plans, TradingView doesn’t say whether a chart alert follows your chart’s extended-hours setting, so test one in pre-market before you rely on it. TradingView also advises against alerts on spread charts such as AAPL/MSFT (TradingView Help).
Did you hit a plan limit?
Cause 12: You’re over your plan’s alert limit, or the alert type isn’t on your plan. The free plan is the one that catches people out. It allows 3 active price alerts and no alerts on indicators, strategies or drawings at all.
| Plan (Oct 2026) | Active price alerts | Indicator and drawing alerts | Alert lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (free) | 3 | None | 1 month |
| Essential | 20 | 20 | 2 months |
| Plus | 100 | 100 | 2 months |
| Premium | 400 | 400 | Open-ended |
| Expert | 600 | 600 | Open-ended |
| Ultimate | 1,000 | 1,000 | Open-ended |

My webhook alert fires, but nothing arrives
If the alert is in the log but your bot, Telegram chat or broker bridge got nothing, check five things. Webhooks aren’t on the free Basic plan, and two-factor login must be on. The receiving server has to answer within three seconds. Only ports 80 and 443 work, and the address must be IPv4 (TradingView Help). The Webhook status column in the Alert log shows whether delivery failed. Our guide to sending TradingView alerts to Telegram covers the most common setup and its failure points step by step.
Is TradingView down?
If every alert went quiet at once, check status.tradingview.com before changing your settings. The Alert log keeps a full history you can export to CSV (TradingView Help), which helps if you need to show support exactly what fired and when.
Should you rely on one alert?
For a setup you’d hate to miss, a second alert from a separate system is cheap insurance. If one side stops, expires or gets muted, the other still reaches you.
Wicko alerts can be that second line. Wicko watches the market itself, so no TradingView plan or webhook is involved. You describe the setup in a sentence or a chart screenshot, your alert is live within 24 hours, and when the setup forms the chart lands on Telegram with Take, Skip and Why buttons. It’s free during early access. Wicko is the AI-native brokerage for chart traders, launching soon at wicko.ai, and alerts are the first part in beta. See how alerts work or join the waitlist.

Questions
Why did my TradingView alert trigger late?
The most common reasons are an alert set to Once per bar close, which waits for the first trade of the next bar, a chart on delayed data (marked with a D), which can make the timing look off, or a slow notification channel. Check the time in the Alert log against when the message reached you to see which side the delay is on.
Do TradingView alerts work when my computer is off?
Yes. TradingView alerts run on TradingView's servers, so they keep working after you close the chart, the browser or your computer. You only need somewhere to receive the notification, such as the phone app, email or a webhook.
Why did my alert fire but I got no notification?
If the alert shows in the Alert log, it fired. Something then blocked the notification: a notification schedule, the Notify in App box left unticked, push notifications switched off for the TradingView app on your phone, or browser sound blocked for the site.
How many alerts can I have on TradingView's free plan?
As of October 2026, the free Basic plan allows 3 active price alerts and no alerts on indicators, strategies or drawings, and its alerts last up to one month. Paid plans raise the limits from 20 active alerts on the cheapest tier up to 1,000.
Why did my TradingView alert stop by itself?
TradingView stops an alert when it expires, when you set it to trigger only once and it already fired, when it fires more than 15 times in 3 minutes, or when you move to a smaller plan. The Alerts tab shows a status such as Stopped, Triggered or Stopped, Expired.
